Oxford health partnership joins NHS research ranks

An Oxford-based partnership between the NHS trusts and universities has been named the NHS’ sixth Academic Health Science Centre.

The Oxford AHSC joins five existing centres, which have been extended for a further five years, according to an announcement from the Department of Health on 29 November. The other centres, designated in 2009, are based in Cambridge and Manchester, and in London at Imperial College London, King’s College London and University College London.

The AHSCs aim to promote the use of research to improve patient care and health education. They consist of partnerships between health providers and academic institutions.
