Public information review calls for targeted investment in data science

Stephen Shakespeare, chairman of the Data Strategy Board, has said that the research councils should target investment on basic “data science” and interdisciplinary projects and partnerships involving data.

The suggestion that the research councils should “seek to play a more strategic role” when it comes to data, was made in the foreword of his study An Independent Review of Public Sector Information.

The review of public sector data, published on 15 May, calls for the creation of a national strategy.
