Alcohol pricing consultation a ‘sham’, says BMJ

Politicians ignored strong evidence for minimum alcohol unit prices, choosing instead to protect drinks industry interests, according to an investigation conducted by the British Medical Journal.

Published on 8 January, the investigation says that the government’s 2012-13 consultation on its alcohol strategy was a “sham”.

The strategy, published in March 2012, contained a commitment to introduce minimum unit pricing for alcohol in England and Wales.
