Lib Dems add voice to campaign for continued science ring fence

A group of Liberal Democrat MPs and candidates have expressed their “disappointment” in science minister Greg Clark’s unwillingness to commit to continued ring-fencing of science spending.

The comment was made in a letter, which refers to an interview with Clark published recently in Research Fortnight. It follows an open letter by the campaign group Science is Vital on the same issue.

In it, signatories expressed pride in the Lib Dem “ambition” of a 3 per cent above inflation increase in science spending for the next 15 years. The signatories are Julian Huppert, MP for Cambridge, Simon Wright, MP for Norwich South, and the parliamentary candidates Judith Bunting, Lucy Care, Layla Moran and Jenny Woods, along with Ed Long, campaign organiser for Team Science—a campaign by the Association of Liberal Democrat Engineers and Scientists.
