Graeme Reid, who is the head of research funding at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, will be joining the National Centre for Universities and Business as a strategic adviser.
Reid, who will take up the position on 7 April, has also been appointed professor of science and research policy at University College London, the statement from the NCUB, successor to the Council for Indusrty and Higher Education, says.
He started his career at the National Engineering Laboratory before working for central government where he held positions in the Treasury, the Cabinet Office, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills before BIS was formed in 2009.
