Government plans driver-education research

The Department for Transport has committed £2 million to research on the effectiveness of different ways of training and teaching learner drivers.

The proposed programme, which forms part of a series of measures set out by the government to improve safety on Britain’s roads, was announced on 21 December.

The intention is to fund research to identify different educational approaches and ways to influence the behaviour of learner and novice drivers. There will also be research to assess technologies that could complement existing teaching approaches and help understand young driver’s attitudes.
