Life sciences minister George Freeman has launched the next round of five-year funding for early-stage medical research projects across the UK.

The contracts for the existing 19 clinical research facilities, which are funded by the National Institute for Health Research, end in March 2017.

The next round of funding, announced on 28 January, will also back 19 facilities, which will between them receive £22.5 million a year up to 2022. Applications for the funding are open until June 2016.
