Government will protect life sciences, assures Blackwood

Nicola Blackwood, the former chairwoman of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee and now a minister for public health, has reassured scientists that the government will continue to support them post-Brexit.

Writing for the Politics Home website on 24 October, Blackwood said that while there was still some uncertainty over the impact that the UK’s exit from the European Union would have on research, she was in “no doubt that this is a time of massive opportunity for British science”.

Blackwood said that the government would continue to support the sector by securing “the best deal possible through and beyond Brexit”. She said that the chancellor’s decision to underwrite EU funding from Horizon 2020 beyond the UK’s departure from the EU was proof of this commitment.
