The Home Office has appointed Alan Manning, an economist at the London School of Economics and Political Science, as the next chairman of the Migration Advisory Committee.
Manning, whose membership of the committee dates back to March 2015, will replace David Metcalf, for a three-year term, the Home Office said in a statement on 16 November.
Home secretary Amber Rudd said that she expected Manning, who is also the director of the Centre for Economic Performance’s research programme on community, to provide the department with “transparent, independent and evidence-based advice” on migration.
