UK and China progress joint nuclear research plans

The National Nuclear Laboratory in the UK and the China National Nuclear Corporation have signed an agreement outlining plans for the UK-China Joint Research and Innovation Centre.

In a press release on 9 November, the NNL said that an agreement had been signed by both UK and Chinese officials outlining initial work and intellectual property arrangements for the JRIC.

The JRIC was first proposed by George Osborne, the chancellor at the time, in 2015. It aims to facilitate partnerships between the UK and China in nuclear R&D. The press release said that a UK-based headquarters for the JRIC would be opened “soon”.
