Social Market Foundation director to return to civil service

Emran Mian is stepping down as director of the think tank the Social Market Foundation to return to the civil service as director of strategy and social mobility at the Department for Education.

Mian will step down in 2017 after three-and-a-half years leading the think tank. Previously, Mian was executive director of the Governance Reform and Partnerships Unit at the Cabinet Office and held positions in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The Social Market Foundation has already begun looking for a replacement. In a job description for the role, the think tank said the position of director was “a high profile, challenging and rewarding opportunity at the heart of Westminster”.
