Jo Johnson has been reappointed as minister for universities and science, but will now report to the secretary of state for education as well as the secretary of state for the newly created Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Johnson tweeted news of his reappointment on 15 July, saying he was “delighted” to keep the role.
The dual-reporting role is a reflection of the responsibility for higher education in England moving to the Department for Education. At the same time, science and innovation will remain in what was the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), now under another name.
