The Health Research Authority has announced that medical scientists working on National Institute for Health Research research programmes will be able to receive funds to set up the work before officially gaining ethical approval.
In a statement, the HRA said it had been working with the Department of Health to review the standard contract for NIHR-funded research. The revised contract will mean that research staff can be appointed earlier in the project “leading to better quality applications for HRA approval, fewer protocol amendment applications, early on in the project, and a quicker and more efficient start up process”.
This will increase efficiency in the establishment of research and ensure quicker translation of research into patient benefit, the HRA said.
