BEIS mandarin to shape global trade department

Top civil servant Martin Donnelly is stepping down as joint permanent secretary at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to help set up the Department for International Trade.

Donnelly worked at BEIS’s predecessor, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, for six years and was responsible for the recent BIS 2020 restructuring programme.

Since July this year, he has been joint permanent secretary at BEIS with Alex Chisholm and acting permanent secretary at the Department for International Trade from July 2016.
