The Brexit transition could last “a few months” longer than two years, chancellor Philip Hammond and first secretary of state Damian Green have warned.
Speaking at a fringe meeting held on 2 October at the Conservative Party conference, Green said that the phrase about the length of the transition used by Theresa May, the prime minister, in her Florence speech earlier this month does not mean the transition will last exactly two years.
“The phrase the prime minister used was ‘around two years’, but that means a few months either way,” said Green.
