Defence ministry dismisses proposal to ban killer robots

The UK government will not support a moratorium on the use of lethal autonomous weapons systems, the Ministry of Defence has said.

More than 100 founders of robotics and artificial intelligence companies have written a letter to the UN, urging countries not to develop autonomous weapons. 

The letter, published on 21 August, was signed by individuals including Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, and Mustafa Suleyman, head of applied artificial intelligence at Google’s DeepMind.
