Board of university regulator criticised for lack of diversity

The government has come under fire over a lack of representation for women, ethnic minorities and science on the Office for Students' board.

On 1 January, the day the OfS legally came into force, the Department for Education announced the final six members of the regulator’s 15-member board.

The appointment of former journalist and free schools advocator Toby Young came immediately under attack, due to his perceived lack of experience in academia and his controversial comments on working class and disabled students.
