The new universities minister Sam Gyimah says he is already working on the fraught topic of how Britain can keep participating in research funded by the European Union after Brexit.
At his first public engagement as science and universities minister following his appointment on 9 January, Gyimah said that he is well aware that UK-based researchers will lose access to programmes such as the huge Framework schemes in December 2020, unless Britain and the EU strike a deal for post-exit participation.
