Javid best candidate for science and education, says Skidmore

Science minister Chris Skidmore has thrown his weight behind home secretary Sajid Javid as the next Tory leader, despite Javid’s previously expressed scepticism of the industrial strategy.

Skidmore said that he would back Javid as leader of the Conservative Party on 24 May, three days before Javid himself confirmed he was standing for the job.

“The next Conservative leader must represent modern Britain, prove we will be a truly international country open to freedom of talent, and who understands we cannot cut ourselves off from our existing research, education and science partnerships. I will be backing Sajid Javid,” Skidmore said in a tweet.
