Home Office outlines further research priorities

The Home Office has published a list of areas that it would welcome further research into, with topics ranging from public safety to animal experiments.

Produced by the department’s chief scientific adviser John Aston and its Science Advisory Council, the document aims both to inform the strategy of the umbrella funding agency UK Research and Innovation and to make more general suggestions for research areas.

The Home Office’s list includes factors contributing to modern slavery and motivations for committing modern slavery offences; interventions to reduce child sexual abuse; how to detect money laundering; how to use autonomous and unmanned systems for preventing crimes; the role of mainstream and social media in promoting extremist communication and recruitment; and the impact of immigrants on local communities.
