Whitty to replace Davies as England’s chief medical officer

   

Chris Whitty, the chief scientific adviser to the Department of Health and Social Care, has been appointed England’s chief medical officer.

Whitty will start his new job in October, taking over from Sally Davies, who is stepping down in September after nine years in the role.

He will also serve as the UK government’s chief medical adviser.
