Medicinal cannabis research a ‘priority’ for government

Funding for research into medicinal cannabis is a priority area for the UK government, it has said in response to a parliamentary report on the subject.

The government’s response on 6 September comes following the House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee’s 3 July report that called for the National Institute for Health Research to improve the evidence base for medicinal use of cannabis.

In the UK, cannabis-based products for medicinal use are unlicensed but specialist doctors can prescribe them.
