A Research Professional News summary of yesterday’s big announcements from Rishi Sunak

Yesterday’s much-anticipated spending review delivered an overall R&D package of £14.6 billion for the coming year, as well as a multi-year plan for investment in basic science.

Venki Ramakrishnan, president of the Royal Society, said the announcement “reinforces the government’s vision of a future built on research and innovation” and is a “significant step towards” the government’s commitment to more than doubling public investment in research by 2025.
