Small institutions are making a greater than anticipated contribution to a wide range of topics including Women, Gender and Minorities, Schools and Education and Arts and Culture, according to the authors of an independent analysis of impact case studies submitted to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.
“This raises some interesting research policy questions with regard to the nexus of selective funding, concentration and research excellence,” the report’s authors say.
The Nature, Scale and Beneficiaries of Research Impact analysis of 6,679 impact case studies was undertaken by researchers at King’s College London, backed by work carried out by the consultancy Digital Science, and published on 25 March.
