The Higher Education Funding Council for England's consultation on the next Research Excellence Framework will not be launched this month as planned, Research Fortnight has learned.
HEFCE was aiming to launch the formal 14-week consultation on the REF by the end of November, but is reportedly still working on some final details. There is no set publication date for the consultation, a HEFCE spokesman said, but it is expected to be launched in the next couple of weeks.
University research managers had speculated on Twitter that the consultation would be published before the appearance of David Sweeney, director of research at HEFCE, at the Inside Government conference.
