REF panels still ‘don’t reflect black and minority ethnic academics’

  

An analysis by UK funding bodies reveals patchy progress on panel membership for the next REF

Progress has stalled on the proportion of black and minority ethnic academic staff accepted to the four main Research Excellence Framework panels, but the proportion of female panel members has jumped significantly.

An analysis of REF2021 panel membership, published by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) on 5 November, revealed that 45 per cent of the 590 REF2021 panel members are women compared with 33 per cent of the 690 members in in the REF2014 exercise.
