Genetic analysis inventor wins MRC Millennium Medal

The molecular biologist and genetic analysis pioneer Edwin Southern was awarded the 2011 Medical Research Council millennium medal on 13 December.

According to the MRC, the medal recognises Southern’s outstanding impact on genetic analysis and his invention of both the Southern blotting technique and DNA micro array technology.
