Dundee researcher wins science-writing prize

Amy Capes, a biological chemist at the University of Dundee, has won the 2011 Max Perutz Science Writing Award for an essay on sleeping sickness, the Medical Research Council has announced.

The essay, “Putting sleeping sickness on the radar”, explains how Capes’ research could lead to ways of stopping the disease-causing parasite from evading the immune system. The piece will be published in The Guardian later this month.
