Business secretary Vince Cable has confirmed the appointment of Paul Golby as chairman of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council from 1 April.
Golby, originally a mechanical engineer, joined energy company E.ON UK in 1998 and was chief executive from 2002 until the end of last year. He takes over as EPSRC chairman from John Armitt, who has served a four-year term.
