DFID and ESRC launch programme on Chinese development and Africa

The UK government’s Department for International Development and the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council have launced a programme to investigate the impacts of Chinese involvement with development in sub-Saharan Africa.

Projects are expected to either tackle a challenge relating to development in Africa by drawing parallels to China’s economic development or study an aspect of how China has contributed to Africa’s economic development.

Applicants can come from anywhere in the world and are encouraged to form teams including academics from developed and developing countries. Grants worth between £200,000 and £2 million will be awarded for up to four years.
