Impact study of Home Office immigration campaign wins ESRC funding

The universities of Glasgow and Warwick have won £200,000 to study the impact on communities of a campaign to persuade people living in the UK illegally to return home.

The Economic and Social Research Council funded project will run for one and a half years. Researchers will conduct surveys and interview residents living in the London boroughs of Barking, Dagenham, Ealing and Hounslow, as well as in Bradford, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow.

Residents will be asked if the campaign affected them and their relationships within the communities they live in. Public meetings involving discussions with policymakers and communities are also expected to feature in the research.
