RCUK clashes with MPs over forensic science funding

Research Councils UK has said that “there is every opportunity” to carry out high-quality forensic research in the UK, rejecting the view of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee.

In its report on forensic science, published on 25 July, the committee said: “We are disappointed that it remains as difficult as ever for forensic science researchers to obtain funding for research.” The report added that there is a “chronic lack of funding” for forensic research.

In RCUK’s response to the report, published on 26 November, the body describes “a misconception that research councils won’t fund forensic research”. RCUK adds that the Technology Strategy Board has established the Forensic Science Special Interest Group to, among other things, bust the myth that it’s hard to get funding for forensics.
