Winning projects to shed light on manufacturing productivity

Fourteen projects have received a share of £3.6 million given out by the UK government to look at ways to use light to improve productivity in manufacturing.

Vince Cable, the secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, announced the funding on 8 January during his tour of M Squared, a laser development company based in Glasgow.

“This new funding will develop research to support the UK’s growing manufacturing sector which already employs around 2.5 million people. This early-stage research will give businesses such as M Squared a great opportunity to develop new technologies to create more effective and efficient manufacturing processes,” Cable said.
