UK signs neutron-source deal with Italy

The Science and Technology Facilities Council has signed a €15-million (£12.5-million) deal with the Consiglio Nazionale Delle Ricerche, Italy’s national research council, to continue existing collaboration on neutron scattering at the STFC’s ISIS facility.

The ISIS facility is the UK’s pulsed neutron and muon source and has been collaborating with Italy for nearly 30 years, a statement from the STFC said. This agreement came in to effect on 8 March, and will continue for six years.

The statement from the STFC also said that there was a possibility of further collaboration with the Italian research council on developing a spectroscopy instrument called TOSCA and Engin-X, an engineering instrument that measures stress in metal objects.
