NERC overhauls process to choose doctoral training priorities

The UK's Natural Environment Research Council has announced that it is developing “a robust process” for identifying on-going and emerging training needs and strategic priorities for Centres for Doctoral Training.

In a statement published on 16 December, NERC said that the process would be developed over the next six months and that it would commission future CDTs in line with those priorities.

A spokeswoman for NERC said that the first stage of the overhaul has involved establishing a working group of selected training advisory group members. This sub-group will work on developing a framework for gathering evidence about skills gaps and evaluation and commissioning of CDTs in the coming months.
