Neurodegenerative disease initiative awards £3.6m

Eleven teams from Canada and Europe have secured funding under the latest Centres of Excellence in Neurodegenerative Disease competition.

COEN, a joint funding initiative between a number of health funders including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the UK’s Medical Research Council was founded in 2010 to build collaborative research activity in neurodegeneration research.

Its latest Pathfinder Awards—the third competition the initiative has run—were for proof of principle studies, which COEN said it hoped would provide a “step change in neurodegeneration research”.
