UK team chosen to supply European neutron source

The European Spallation Source has chosen a team at the ISIS spallation neutron source, based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, as the prime contractor for two major instruments.

The team at ISIS will design the two instruments, called LoKI and FREIA, and then trial-assemble them before they are shipped and integrated into the ESS facility in Lund, Sweden.

The LoKI instrument will be used to study soft matter, material and bioscience, while the FREIA will be used for structural analysis of thin films found in the life sciences.
