The Natural Environment Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council have committed £2.5 million of Newton programme funding to work with China on earthquake research.
The Newton Fund is a UK scheme for research collaborations with other nations, often with matched funding from the partner country. The National Natural Science Foundation of China is putting a further £2.5m into the earthquake call, part of the Increasing Resilience to Natural Hazards Programme, which runs from 2010 to 2018.
The funders held a workshop in China on 19-22 November 2014 to collect ideas on topics for the call. The call will open in May, with early expressions of interest due in March.
