UK funders to align animal and plant health research

Governments and research councils have agreed to coordinate their funding programmes for animal and plant health research to reduce repetition and improve infrastructure in the UK.

Writing in a joint strategy published on 13 January, the funders outline how they will work together to address gaps in scientific infrastructure and the knowledge base, while avoiding a costly duplication of efforts.

The group, made up of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Natural Environment Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council, along with the Welsh, Scottish and Westminster governments and the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, have branded themselves the UK Science Partnership for Animal and Plant Health.
