Climate expert among global challenges fund advisers

Jim Watson is one of five new members appointed to the Global Challenges Research Fund’s Strategic Advisory Group.

Watson, director of the UK Energy Research Centre based at Imperial College London and professor of energy policy at the University of Sussex, and four other appointees will join the initial 10 that were announced earlier this year to provide advice and support for the fund, Research Councils UK said in a statement.

He is joined by: Simon Trace, an independent consultant and previously chief executive of non-governmental organisation Practical Action; Barbara Evans, professor of public health engineering in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds; Katrina Brown, professor of social science at the University of Exeter; and Jess Camburn, director of humanitarian research initiative Elrha. All have been appointed for an initial two years and another call for nominations for members will be announced in 2017.
