The Medical Research Council has cut the duration of its senior non-clinical fellowship awards from seven to five years.
The change follows a review of the scheme conducted by the MRC’s Training and Careers Group, whose conclusions were released on 17 November.
The MRC said that cutting the tenure of the awards from seven to five years in future allows them to fund a wider range of researchers, while retaining a “generous package” to support what it says is an ambitious project.
