The Natural Environment Research Council and the National Natural Science Foundation of China have revealed the three projects that will receive funding as part of their joint biosphere research programme.
The Biosphere Evolution, Transitions and Resilience programme—funded with £4 million from NERC and 9m yuan from the NSFC—will focus on exploring paleontological sites in China because of the range of well-preserved fossil localities across the country, NERC said in a statement on 22 November.
The programme will “strengthen the partnership with NSFC beyond the Newton framework”, NERC said.
