‘Stretched’ EPSRC sees BIS grant fall by 5 per cent

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council suffered a 5.4 per cent cut in grant-in-aid funding received from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in 2015-16.

The figures from the EPSRC’s annual report and accounts for 2015-16, published on 15 July, show that the EPSRC’s grant from BIS fell from £947.1 million in 2014-15 to £895.6m a year later.

According to the council, most of this reduction was within its capital budget. However, the EPSRC recognised that the cut also had an impact over both programme and administration allocations.
