ESRC shakes up its support for early-career researchers

The Economic and Social Research Council has launched a Doctoral Training Network, formed from 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships, and two Centres for Doctoral Training.

Jane Elliott, ESRC chief executive, said in a statement on 1 August that the first students would join the network in October 2017 and would develop “valuable skills including capabilities in communication, project-management and collaboration within and beyond academia”.

From next year, the ESRC’s Doctoral Training Centres (DTCs) will be rebranded as Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs), and numbers will be cut from the existing 21 to 14. However, the council stressed that the DTPs will cover a larger number of institutions, a total of 73, up from 46.
