Three interdisciplinary healthcare research centres will receive a combined £11 million in follow-on funding as part of the government’s industrial strategy.
The centres, managed by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, were set up in 2013 with £32m in initial funding. They are located in the University College London, the University of Bristol and the University of Edinburgh. All in all, the three centres engage with more than 10 universities and several companies.
The extra funding is part of the £4.7 billion earmarked for R&D under the industrial strategy up to 2020-21. The money will enable the centres to retain their staff and continue their research after the EPSRC grants end in September 2018, the council said in a statement on 7 December.
