The Economic and Social Research Council and the Alan Turing Institute have awarded two fellowships on strengthening the ties between the social sciences and data science.
The fellows will use their grant money to apply data science to two major societal challenges: smart cities and urban happiness, the Turing institute announced on 19 December.
Alison Heppenstall at the University of Leeds was awarded a fellowship to investigate patterns in digital data collected by cities and how these could help solve problems such as congestion and air pollution.
