The government has pledged £319 million to support research in the biosciences including a £29-million award to the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute, birthplace of Dolly the sheep.
The funding is part of the government’s industrial strategy to boost UK bioscience over the next five years, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced in a statement on 11 April.
The Roslin Institute will work with the government and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council to help researchers find solutions to healthcare challenges and to further scientific knowledge on areas such as infectious diseases, it said.
