Three bioeconomy projects will receive a combined £16.6 million from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council has announced.
The three projects focus on developing agricultural technologies and industrial bioprocesses, the BBSRC said on 11 August.
The first project, called Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst, will seek to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The second, Agri-Food Technology Catalyst, will aim to increase the productivity and resilience of UK crops. The third, Smart Crop Protection, will seek to improve the detection, monitoring and prediction of pests and diseases affecting crops.
