ESRC to distribute £16m under global challenges fund

The Economic and Social Research Council is to open four funding calls this autumn as part of the Global Challenges Research Fund.

A total of £16 million will be available to support research proposals in the areas of mental health, education and skills, transitions towards sustainable and inclusive societies, and ways of creating sufficient fairly remunerated employment. The employment topic is in line with the UN’s eighth sustainable development goal: ‘decent work for all’, the ESRC said.

In a statement on 4 August, the research council encouraged applicants to investigate how their approaches can be replicated or scaled up.
