Medical researchers urged to speak up during election period

Academy of Medical Sciences says it’s ‘essential’ that researchers’ voices are heard ahead of election

The Academy of Medical Sciences has reminded its fellows that pre-election restrictions on speech do not apply to them.

In an open letter published one month before the general election on 12 December, the academy’s president Robert Lechler reminded scientists that they are allowed to speak about their work, despite past concerns about so-called “purdah” rules.
